Blurb:
Keyboardist Kyle Cross may look like a bad boy with his tattoos and piercings, but he's really the good guy who's always stuck fixing his band's problems and never gets the girl. His band is competing in a college Battle of the Bands, but when their bassist doesn't show, Kyle must track her down with the help of the person he least expects: his ex-girlfriend Alexis Monroe.
Kyle hasn't seen Alexis since she dumped him in high school, and she's dropped her preppy image for fiery red hair and a bold new attitude to match. With only hours before his band goes on stage, Kyle has to be a little bad if he wants to win both the Battle and the girl he's never gotten over. But when their old problems resurface, the good guy might just get his heart broken all over again.
A stand-alone prequel novella to More Than Music.
*** New Adult romance suitable for 17+ due to mature content. ***
Review:
I loved this story for many reasons and the main reason is the character of Kyle. He is absolutely a hero beyond a shadow of a doubt. He's good looking, smart, kind, talented, and tattooed. And Kyle has a great "voice" in the story. The character of Kyle is written in the first person and it is done exceptionally well. First person is not always the easiest thing to pull off, but Elizabeth Briggs writes first person really well. (And BTW I loved that Kyle knew who Joy Division is!)
Now the story here is not very complicated but it works. These aren't a bunch of college kids trying to save the world. They're trying to survive a battle of the bands with a rogue band member though. But regardless, the story line is entertaining and I was rooting for Kyle and Alexis to get back together because it was very obvious they are hot as hell together.
After reading this I would definitely be interested in reading more from Ms. Briggs and I would recommend this if you're looking for something light and fun and sexy.
