December Book of the Month! Christmas With the Billionaire by Amy Lamont

Christmas With the Billionaire by Amy Lamont

Link to buy Christmas with the Billionaire (Holiday Encounters Book 1)

Story Rating: 5 out of 5

Review:

Emma and her three friends have made a bet for the holidays that they’ll have a wild adventure and the one voted by the four of them to be the most wild will win.  Of course, Emma thinks she’ll never win.  She stays in on Friday in flannel PJs and oversized sweatshirts.  But her friends aren’t letting her off the hook.  Her best friend convinces her to take an adventure based on some of the fictional articles that Emma writes. When Emma draws “Sex with a Stranger”, she knows she’s screwed....and not the way she hopes.

When I say that I love Christmas romances, THIS is the kind of romance I mean.  There is a magical innocence mixed with hot sex in this story that put me perfectly into the holiday mood.  Emma is sassy and sweet.  Nate is suitable smoldering and forceful.  I adored this from the moment Emma entered Hotel Wynter and the holiday magic was sprinkled all over me.  Most of all, I liked Emma.  A lot.  She was a good person with believable angst and great character growth.  Nate was understandably out the door when he ran from Emma and right back in when the moment called for it.  This isn’t a story if you’re looking for the more cynical view of love and sex.  This is for those of us who still love to root for Elizabeth Lane in “Christmas In Connecticut”.  This is for those of us who want Doris Walker in “A Miracle On 34th St.” to not only believe in Santa, but to believe in Fred too so that little Susan can have her house.  This for those of us who want Ralphie to get his Red Ryder BB gun.

The thing about a great book like this is that if there’s things wrong with it, I don’t see it.  I was lost in the story, living vicariously through Emma and feeling her pain as her disastrous one night stand broke her heart.  I was hoping for her to get back up and kick some ass...which she did.  I cheered for her as she dragged Nate off to the pantry to give him a piece of her mind...and ended up with less clothing to wear when she left.

In short, if you’re looking for a holiday romance with a little spice, this is it.  The story manages to be sweet without being too sappy and sexy without being trashy.  It’s a fine balance and one the author has nailed.

I very rarely say this, but go buy it. I think it’s worth it.

Rating?  5 Reindeer....um snowglobes?......How about 5 Gold rings?

Review: Out of This World by Maggie Morton

Out of This World by Maggie Morton

Link to buy Out of This World

Story Rating: 2 out of 5

Review:

Looking for F/f kinky sex with a smoky hot rating? Out of this world measures up when it comes to great sex. Iris is a character in a bad country song. Her girlfriend left her for another man. She's lost her luggage. She has no wallet. She can't find her hotel for her "finding me" vacation. When she is lost in the middle of nowhere, she finally cries, gives up and meditates. Yes, mediates - breathe in, breathe out, breathe in … This is where the story turns weird.

Iris falls through some rabbit hole and ends up in another world with a superhot woman. This woman is a lesbian who can lick Iris's pussy so well that Iris has out of body experiences. Not sure what is going on, Iris and this sex on the stick, Anandra, decide to go on a quest. This quest is to find a way to send Iris home while delivering a message to the Queen.

Let's cover the good stuff first. The sex is amazing. These two go at it like bunnies. With a little help of magic, sex toys appear out of the sky and land next to the two nymphos. Every hole is probed, licked, stroked and sucked. There isn't a part of Iris's body left unexplored by the insatiable Anandra.  The sex scenes are erotic and well written. For those who want hawt lesbian sex, this is the book for you.

The characters in this book are also mediocre. Iris is annoying from the start. She's a whiny little thing who can't do anything right. She's the type of person people avoid because she can't plan and anything that can go wrong, she causes it. Her thinking ability seems to be klutzy. Unfortunately even at the end, Iris is kind of a dud. Anandra on the other hand is sexy, independent, brave and self-sufficient. Too bad her role is more of sidekick sex-toy than heroine.

From a world building and plot perspective, this book needs work. There are threads which are left hanging as well as an over abuse of ex deus machina. Anandra's parents were killed or missing from a war which is mentioned several time yet goes nowhere. Characters come out of nowhere to fix the latest problems. The setup to introduce these characters are a bit sketchy. For example, Iris's grandfather just happens to be the innkeeper in an inn they patron is a bit too pat. The way magic Iris can suddenly use her magic based on some flowers and a song is a bit of a stretch too. After a while, a reader just expects rabbits to be pulled out of Iris's ass to save the day. There is little rhyme or reason how these conflicts are so easily resolved. The ending is anticlimactic. This book is recommended for the flaming hot lesbian sex scenes.

Review: A Good Man by Marc Nobbs

A Good Man by Marc Nobbs

Link to buy A Good Man : Tutelam Venit Book One

Story Rating: 4 out of 5

Review:

A young boy coming into his own, Paul Robertson's story is detailed in a wonderful manner.  Mr. Nobbs pens a fantastic story of how the choices a person makes can lead to their current situation.  This story is basically a "what-if" story with a West Side Story theme.  The two opposing sides are Villagers and Townies. The Townies are the blue collar worker families. The Villagers are the white collar or "rich" families. These two shall never meet. This is the unwritten rule that all follow.

Paul is a guy who marches to his own drum beat. He is the nicest guy and on top of it, he does what he thinks is right, regardless of what others say. He is classified as a Villager and he's fine with it.  This is until one day he sees the head Villager, Clarissa, being physically accosted. He defends her and this begins the start of Villagers and Townies mixing.

The start of this story is very slow. Mr. Nobbs spend a good deal of time building the world and explain the intricacies in the relationships. It's a nice mini-cosmos for cultural studies - watching children of different families interact. When a catalyst occurs, the change in this world is alarming for some and great for others.

Without giving away spoilers, Paul's decision to become a friend of someone who is supposedly not in his social class, it starts a chain of reactions. The predictable nature of how this goes does not detract from the story. The story follows a logical path and as each co-mingling of the two groups increase, more issues arise. What is interesting is Paul's perspective.  He is the good guy who brings out the best in everyone. He's quick to defend and slow to anger. He's also the kind of guy who will explore and determine the facts before he makes a decision. Even when he makes a decision, it's not a judgment. He is the least judgmental character in this book. To say he is mature would be an understatement. Even though Paul shows great maturity, through the adversity, he grows up even more. He is a guy who doesn't believe in drama and helps smooth out the rough edges for others.  He's a natural born diplomat. Now, Mr. Nobbs didn't make Paul perfect. Paul does have flaws and it makes him more human are relatable.

This story is definitely character driven and it's a pleasure to read. At times there are sections which seems slow. Mr. Nobbs does a good job of moving it along with good dialog and great description.  He's a storyteller who shows rather than tells. Overall, this book is interesting to read and captures a reader's attention. The ending is a bit of a shock and sets it up perfectly for the next book. This book is recommended for New Adult readers who are looking for a well written book showing the good, bad and ugly of humanity. This book shows that one person can make a difference in other people's lives and it can be positive.

Synopsis:

I’m Leon , number one object of Deepsilver’s rumor mill. Owner of student hotspot, Smother.
Since I was sixteen, the world has been mine. I do everything—
My way.
Every co-ed in town clenches her thighs over me, but most don’t fit the bill. See, I like my girls broken . Once I detect my shade of don’t-give-a-fuck damaged, I fight hard, I fight dirty, and I don’t give up until—
I conquer.
Drunk fathers and frequent beatings don’t merit attention, but when my despicable dad starts the process of croaking, I’m forced to remember. Thus, the downward spiral begins: my latest broken-girl turns the tables on me and splits. My hot-as-hell employee, Arriane, throws me the curve ball of a lifetime. And suddenly—
I’m out of control.
But at the center of my chaos, she exists. Always close, always sweet, and so beautifully fucking… wholesome. She represents everything I’ve shied from in a woman. Still—
I crave her.
I’m Leon, and I don’t deny my cravings. Just—this girl is not surrendering. So here I am, fighting harder. Fighting dirtier. And goddammit all, I will—
Conquer.

AUTHOR BIO:

Originally from Norway, I moved to the United States twelve years ago. I hold a Master’s degree in languages and taught Spanish at college level before settling in at the Savannah College of Art and Design as an adviser.

I write New Adult fiction, sometimes with a paranormal twist—like in “Shattering Halos,” published by The Wild Rose Press in February 24th 2014 and in “Stargazer,” released November 2014. The first book I’ve self-published was the New Adult Contemporary novel “Pandora Wild Child,” which made me a proud indie author in October 28th 2014.

I specialize in impulsive heroines, bad-boys, and good-boys running amok. Then, there’s the intense love, physical and emotional attraction beyond reason—sensory overload for the reader as well as for the characters. Like in real life, I hope you’re unable to predict what comes next in my stories.

Yes, so I write what I love to read, and depending on the reader, you’ll find my books to be a fast-paced emotional rollercoaster—or disturbing because the struggles of love aren’t your thing. Here’s to hoping you have the same reading vice as me!

Breaking Series by Juliana Haygert cover reveals

Breaking Free (The Breaking Series, #1)
(Previously titled BREAKING THE REINS)

Warning: strong language, domestic violence, sex scene
Horses, mansions, tea parties, and lies are twenty-year-old Hannah Taylor’s life. To others, her family and her relationship with Eric is perfect. But she knows the truth. She lives it.

After a fire takes her grandma’s life and kills her horse, Hannah’s immaculate life spirals out of control. Her father disapproves of her decision to run her grandma’s ranch instead of focusing solely on learning the family business; Animal Control brings her Argus, a mistreated horse that she can’t turn away even though she’s not ready for another horse; and her boyfriend, Eric Bennett, a world famous polo player, becomes possessive and authoritarian. Despite her best efforts to disguise it, Hannah grows wary of him.

Then, Leonardo Fernandes struts onto the polo scene. A cocky rookie with a messy life of his own, he’s drawn to Hannah and isn’t afraid of showing it, even when Eric makes it clear she is his and he’ll do whatever it takes to keep it that way. Hannah suffers for Eric’s jealousy. The abuse only gets worse when Leo steals the title of best polo player in the world from Eric.

But the title isn’t enough for Leo. He wants Hannah too, and she can’t deny her attraction to him either. Somehow, she must find a way to break free from abusive Eric before he breaks every bone in her body.

Breaking Away (The Breaking Series, #2)
(Previously titled BREAKING FENCES)

Warning: strong language, bullying, sex scenes
All Beatriz “Bia” Fernandes wants is to prove herself—to her family and friends—though it’s hard to prove anything with an overbearing father and three famous polo-playing older brothers. After her acceptance into college results in a heated family argument, the Brazilian girl leaves everything behind to find her own American dream.

College life away from home is perfect until the people she believes to be her friends turn on her. With lies and rumors threatening to suffocate her, Bia turns to her only freedom. Riding. But one thing gets in the way of her escape. Garrett Blackwell and his bad cowboy attitude. Working at the ranch is his obligation, bugging Bia is his newfound hobby. His thick skin and easy grin don't hide what Bia already knows—this misunderstood and lonely cowboy fights his own demons. Brushing horses’ coats and mucking out stalls shouldn't be this sexy, and it isn’t long before he becomes a part of her distraction.

However, escaping won’t solve her problems, and it’s up to Bia to break down the fences around her and prove her strength—not to her family and friends, but to herself … and for Garrett. Because standing on her own doesn't have to mean standing alone.

From the outside, Hilary Taylor has it all—beauty, money, a caring family, good friends—but inside she’s struggling, full of fears. Events from the past forever changed her, and though years of therapy have helped, she still has a long way to go…. No matter how much progress she’s made, Hil isn’t sure she’ll ever be able to trust men again. Especially one who sees her as nothing more than a pretty face. But Hil knows it's time to face her fears, and the best way to do that is to start small.

To Guilherme Fernandes life is about three things: polo, parties and pretty girls—only one of which he takes seriously. Gui is too focused on his polo career to waste time on relationships, however he can’t help but be intrigued by the beautiful yet troubled Hil. But what was supposed to be a one time thing, soon turns into a weekly date.

Story Rating: 5 out of 5
Gloria is cursed. Her birthday is New Year’s Day and every New Year’s Eve has been a disaster.  She’s covered her bases this year, though. She’s volunteering at a suicide hotline and hoping that helping out someone else will make her night a little better. (And yes, that makes sense when you meet Gloria.)
Of course, the power goes out and who comes to the rescue? Good looking Power Company guy, Charlie. Sparks fly and Gloria thinks maybe this time, she’ll have a New Year’s Eve hook up that will make her birthday finally fall into the “no suck” zone.

But the evening doesn’t go as planned and Gloria and Charlie have to decide if the night’s events mean they should hang onto each other or run like hell.
This book made me laugh out loud, so I recommend not drinking while you enjoy this short, sweet story. Gloria is pretty well adjusted considering her experiences in life and Charlie is a nice guy with definitely sexy fetishes. I enjoyed the subtle kink in this book and I liked that the author didn’t belabor that part of it. It all fit with the characters who were a lot of fun to read.

New Year’s never seemed like a holiday with its own flavor to me. It was always an add-on to Christmas. But this story captures the whole “new beginnings” idea and runs with it. I thoroughly enjoyed it, cheering for the way these two people persevered and grabbed their happy ending. This is only the second New Adult book I’ve read and if this is typical, then I’m sold!  It’s worth buying.

Review: Walk With Me by Kaitlyn Stone

Walk with Me by Kaitlyn Stone

Link to buy Walk with Me (BookStrand Publishing Mainstream)

Story Rating: 3 out of 5

Blurb:

What dictates the path in life we take and who we choose to walk with? After escaping her abusive parents, nineteen-year-old Kenna Sloane is determined to create an independent life, free of emotional distraction. The last thing this focused college student wants is a relationship, especially with a hot rookie cop popular with the badge bunnies. When Kenna reluctantly agrees to a double date with Santa Monica cop Donovan Alexander, she's launched on an exciting and dangerous journey. With time, she discovers some souls are instinctively drawn together to quiet the pain of their traumatic pasts. But even after the revelation of Donovan's own secret burden, Kenna continues to battle the fear she may be too broken for her modern day knight in blue. Can Kenna open her heart to the healing light of true love before peril strikes? Note: This book is written in one point of view. Note: This book is written in first-person point of view. Note: This book contains adult language used as profanity.

Review:

The story line for Walk With Me isn't bad, but the story itself feels a little rushed at times. The characters are well developed and their love seem believable and real. I was definitely cheering for Kenna to end up happy and successful after learning about her abusive past. Donovan is a modern day Prince Charming, and he lets his emotions and sexiness show during intimate moments. He makes me swoon just a little!  Even he has secrets and shares them with Kenna, which makes their relationship stronger.

The climax of the story just didn't do it for me. I kept waiting for something to happen, but it never did until the very end. And then, it was just over. I did like how the author made readers assume the worst of the situation at the end to keep the suspense alive for a few more pages.

The book is good enough that I am interested to read the second book of the series. I would like to see how things end up for Kenna and Donovan and wish them the best of luck.

The strongest of the boys are taken as Wards and raised to become elite agents, the Council’s enforcers and spies. Strong girls—those who could advance the rapidly-evolving matrilineal power—don’t exist. Not according to the Council.

Lena Gracey died as a child, mourned publicly by parents desperate to keep her from the Council. She was raised in hiding until she fled the relo-city for solitary freedom in the desert. Lena lives off the grid, selling her power on the black market.

Agent Alex Reyes was honed into a calculating weapon at the Ward School to do the Council’s dirty work. But Alex lives a double life. He’s leading the next generation of agents in a secret revolution to destroy those in power from within.

The life Lena built to escape her past ends the day Alex arrives looking for a renegade Spark.

Rook an Ronin by JA Huss book tour

TRAGIC By JA Huss

How far are you willing to go to start over?

Rook Walsh is homeless, jobless, and down to her last ten bucks when opportunity knocks her in the head and delivers a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Internationally renowned photographer, Antoine Chaput, knows the minute he spies Rook in his studio that she's got The Look. The dark and desperate look he must have to land the exclusive TRAGIC media contract.

Rook is paired up with top model Ronin, and he knows exactly what to do to make her blush for Antoine's camera. Her luck changes in an instant and suddenly she's got more attention and exposure than she can handle—both in front of the camera and behind the scenes.

MANIC
By JA Huss

TRAGIC is over and Rook is ready for the future—Spencer Shrike and the STURGIS contract!

It's three months of body art modeling! That means three months of Spencer Shrike's paintbrush all over her body, three months in front of Antoine's camera, and three months of twenty-four-hour filming for Spencer's Biker Channel reality show.

Wait a minute… what reality show? Maybe she should've read that STURGIS contract a little closer?

Sure, Rook's bank account is overflowing, but Ronin is angry, Clare is trying to escape rehab, Antoine is a worried mess, and Elise is just trying to hold everyone together. Rook's new family is about to fall apart before she even gets the chance to enjoy it.

PANIC By JA Huss

Rook is chasing her dream—film school and a chance at a life beyond the one she ran from six months ago. But before she can become the girl she wants to be, she must deal with the girl she left behind.

Ronin is also chasing his dream—a family of his own and a life away from erotic modeling. And he too, has a past he’s trying to forget. A past that makes Rook question everything about their life together.

Lies, secrets, and shocking truths will rock the foundation Rook and Ronin have built. Can they put the past behind them and move forward together? Or is this just another too good to be true relationship that will crash and burn in the end?

TRAGIC EXCERPT
RONIN

The girl catches me staring and I hold my breath. But neither of us turns away. We stare, unabashed, until Antoine's direction pulls her back into the shoot and she's lost again—guarded and unhappy, frowning and resigned. She's a blackbird sitting in a tree staring out at the world, daring the wind to come and knock her off the swaying bough.
She is wrecked, Elise is right. But she's not down yet. The look on her face is defiant.
When I look over at the clock it's well past five. Antoine has been shooting her for almost two hours. Elise left a while back but whether she's still here in the studio or up in her apartment, I have no idea. I lost track of her because my eyes are only on the girl.
Antoine does pretty well until the end. It's clear he's finished shooting and the girl is starting to look uncomfortable when he asks her what she was thinking about during the shoot.
I cringe. No, you don't ask them! You make them want to tell you, you idiot! I want to pull him aside and stop the crash and burn that's coming, but it's too late. She snaps at him and he pulls back when he realizes his mistake.
He turns the conversation to business and this is where it really gets interesting. She tells him she's not a model and has no portfolio. I'm just about to laugh when she starts yelling about pictures as payment.
I look back towards Elise's station and realize she forgot to explain the terms to her.
We are so off our game today. One tragic girl has disrupted all the carefully laid plans and protocols we've had in place for years.
The tragic girl storms off yelling. Antoine walks over to me and we wait together as she rants to Elise.
"You better fix this, Antoine," I say calmly, but inside I'm screaming too. "Pay the fucking girl, she needs the money."
He snorts like a fucking Frenchman. "I do not pay for test shoots."
"This," I say, turning to face him, "was no test shoot and you know it. You've got hundreds of shots in that camera. Pay her and make sure she comes back or I won't do the contract. I want her. I've put up with hundreds of stupid girls over the years for you and I've never asked you for a favor like this. I want this one, or I won't do it."
He fishes through his pocket and pulls out the cash that Clare never earned.
The studio door slams and we are all reminded that two models have walked out on us today.
"Elise!" Antoine calls, thrusting the bills out at her. "Catch her, pay her, and invite her back on Monday."
Elise grabs the money and flies out the door.
"We're in trouble, Ronin. She is trouble." He turns a little to look me in the eye, something he rarely does unless he's serious and wants me to consider his advice. "You should stay away from her, keep it professional. Or it might get messy."
I shrug. "I'll do what I want. And staying away from her isn't even in the top million things I want to do with that girl."
"Elise will hurt you if you ruin this one, Ronin. She won't tolerate another Mardee."
Fuck you, is what I think. But I don't say it, I just sigh and we wait in silence for Elise to come back.

MANIC EXCERPT
ROOK

"You scare me, Rook."
"Why?" I ask, puzzled.
"Because your future is making itself right now, this very moment. And you have no idea it's happening. I want you so completely it hurts. But you and I are in two totally different places."
My whole body shivers with a chill as I absorb his words. I swallow. "That sounds like the beginning of a break-up speech. Are you breaking up with me?"
He scoots my bottom closer, thrusting himself inside me a little more. "I love you, Rook. I'm not breaking up with you. But it's all bad timing, you know?"
I shake my head. "No, not really."
"My career started when I was seventeen. I've done everything you're just getting a taste of now. I've traveled all over the world, I've made a shitload of money, I have pretty much everything I want."
"But—"
"Except the only thing I really want."
I wait for it, but he lets out a long sigh and holds it in. "Is it a secret?"
He lets out a soft laugh and rocks himself into me again. "No, it's not. I already told you that night we went to the zoo."
"A family," I say, a little breathless now because what he's doing, this serious conversation combined with the sensual lovemaking, is making my heart pound.
"Yes. I'm done, Rook. I can live off the money I've made for decades. I'm ready to do something else. Start something new."
"Well, how is that a problem for us?" I ask, lifting up and slipping down on him. It's his turn to become breathless. "I'm not against the idea, you know."
He smiles as his hand reaches up to cup my breast.
I shiver again, but this time it's a good one.
"Not against the idea is not the same as on board." His fingers stop and his hands wrap around my waist as he slides me back and forth across his lap. My whole body flushes with heat and I tip my head back and close my eyes.
"I'm looking for a partner."
I swallow. "I'd like to be that partner, but—"
He waits.
I open my eyes. He's watching me very closely, his hands still gliding over my body, slowly—so, so slowly. My clit throbs against his friction.
He waits.
"I'm scared too, Ronin. But of very different things."
He wraps his arms around me completely and buries his face in my neck, tasting the water on my skin left over from the misting shower spray. "I'll take care of you, Rook."
I take a deep breath and let it out. "I want you to take care of me, Ronin."
His palms slide up underneath my wet hair and then he fists it, just a little, like a claim. It makes me hesitate, but then he pulls me forward until my cheek touches his. "Then let me, just let me put it all together for us. I can make you happy."

PANIC EXCERPT
ROOK

My phone beeps an incoming text just as I settle back on my couch and turn on the TV.
My heart flutters a little as I read the text.

Dear Rook (AKA Gidget),

I’ve never had the urge to write a love letter but I’m lying in bed, looking over at your side, wondering if I can somehow change your mind about this whole deal and talk you into coming the fuck home. (I’m a selfish asshole, I know.) But I get that you need this so I’ll just say this instead: I felt like I was leaving a piece of my soul behind the moment I left. And every second that passes, I miss you like that, times a million.

Love,
Ronin (AKA Larue)

I press call under his name and he picks up on the first ring. “Ronin Flynn, you are like a door.”
He laughs. “It was that touching, huh?”
“Not a window where you can see through to the other side and be sure of what’s coming. But a door, still closed and leading to every opportunity imaginable and requiring a leap of faith that the risk is worth it. You are my doorway to endless possibilities and I’m ready to take that risk.”
I can hear him swallow on the other end and when he’s done his words rumble out in his deep, sexy voice. “Rook, I’m not a risk, I’m a sure thing. You’re the only girl I want to build a future with. Ever. You’re the one, Rook. The love that only comes around once in a lifetime and I refuse to settle for anything else.”
He’s perfect. Simply perfect. “I love your love letter, Larue. It made me sigh like a schoolgirl.”
“Well, you are a schoolgirl, right? I think I’m gonna have to go looking for a little tartan skirt and some knee socks. Dress you all up in a sexy outfit this weekend.”
“If you do that, I might have to be bad on purpose, Mr. Flynn.”
“Don’t tease, Gidget, or I’ll spank you.”
“You promise that so much and never come through. I hardly get excited about it anymore.”
He guffaws this time and I can practically picture his gorgeous smile lighting up his electric blue eyes. “I can’t fucking wait until Friday.”
I giggle a little as I picture our Friday. “I might just ditch class early, Mr. Flynn.”
“And that will earn you two spankings, Miss Corvus.”
“Promises, promises.”
